I believe a gatekeeper always spawns with the first avatar. Couple this with the waves of every enemy type and it becomes frustrating rather than challenging. The majority of the level is fine and can be taken at a decent pace, dealing with the pods as they appear, but the moment I have to fight the Avatars I get spammed with endlessly spawning enemies coupled with healing, teleporting Avatars that annihilate even slightly grouped soldiers and Codices that cause weapon malfunctions. I am having a really difficult time with the final room in the final mission of the game. So I need some tips and advice from the experienced commanders out there.
